West Wisconsin Avenue Utility Work and Street Closures

Starting on Monday, February 15, 2010 the City of Oconomowoc Wastewater and Water Utilities will begin construction to replace pipes under West Wisconsin Avenue between Concord Road and Marks Road. These replacements will take place in several areas along the route. We are doing the work now, between February 15th and May 7th, so it is completed prior to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (DOT) reconstruction of West Wisconsin Avenue slated to start in May. The contractor will be working from 7:00am to 7:00pm Monday thru Friday. Saturday work may be allowed if warranted by conditions.

As with any construction activities, there will be some inconvenience to area residents. Noise and dust associated with the work should be expected. Access to homes and businesses will be maintained during the construction. There may be times when the work is directly in front of a driveway that access, blocking access for a short time. If accessibility is a concern, please notify us at 262.569.2192 so we can work to accommodate your needs. You will be notified of any such work in advance so that you may plan your activities accordingly and remove any vehicles from your driveway needing use.

When the sanitary sewer and water lines are being worked on, there may also be times where these facilities are not available during the day. For any planned outages you will be notified in advance of the work. If buried facilities are damaged during the construction, they may need to be shut off without notice for repairs.

For the safety of the traveling public and the contractor’s crews, lane closures and detours will be necessary. Based on the contractor’s plans to work from Marks Road to Concord Road here is what you can expect:

    - At the start of the work, signage will direct thru traffic to use the STH 67/16 bypass around the City. Local traffic will be allowed on Wisconsin Avenue.
    - Once the contractor has completed their work from Marks Road to the Capitol Drive intersection, traffic will be detoured using Capitol Drive to Chaffee Road. Work will then take place between Capitol Drive and Chaffee Road, including new pipe under the river. We estimate this detour to start the week of February 22nd and be in place until mid April.
    - When work has been completed between Capitol Drive and Chaffee Road, there will be a one week period when lane closures occur between Chaffee Road and Blain Street. During the contractor’s working hours, Wisconsin Avenue will be reduced down to a single lane with flag persons directing traffic. Expect delays during this week.
    - Once the contractor has completed their work past the Blain Street intersection, traffic will be detoured around the work area between Blain Street and Concord Road. The detour route for this part of the project will be Blain Street to South Street to Concord Road. Expect this detour to be in place for this project until May.
    - The City’s contractor is expected to complete their work by the beginning of May. Immediately after this, the DOT will start their reconstruction project. The same three detours; STH 67/16 bypass, Capitol Drive to Chaffee Road and Blain Street to South Street to Concord Road will be used until fall of 2010.
