Spring Energy Tips

We have a few ideas that will save you energy and money this spring:

  • Replace incandescent light bulbs in high-use areas with compact fluorescent light bulbs. They use up to 70% less energy and last up to 10 times longer.
  • Use a microwave oven as an energy-efficient alternative to a conventional oven. It cooks food more quickly and uses 70-80% less electricity.
  • Clean your dryer’s lint filter after each use. This allows air to circulate efficiently. The harder it is for air to circulate past the clothes, the longer the dryer must run.
  • Set your water heater thermostat to 120 degrees. This can be measured by placing a thermometer in the flow of hot water at your kitchen or bathroom sink.
  • Shade outside air conditioning units with trees or other materials. The unit will work more efficiently and use up to 10% less electricity.
